Those detained have been identified as Bishal Tamang, 28, Binod Tamang, 32, and Kami Singh Syangtan, 42, all of Shivapuri Rural Municipality in Nuwakot district, and Bishal Tamang’s brother, Binod Tamang, 32, of Rapti Municipality-1 in Chitwan.
They were apprehended with the skin from Airport Sekuwa Corner in Kathmandu Metropolitan-1 after security personnel from the Minbhawan-based Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) were alerted to the fact that they were smuggling it. MCD seized a leopard skin that measured 2 feet 2 inches in length and 7 inches in width from them.
The arrested trio has been handed over to the District Forest Office (DFO) in Kathmandu for further investigation and punishment.
Similarly, MCD has turned over the confiscated skins to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
