Park Geun-hye, South Korea’s former president, has been pardoned.

Geun-hye, the former president who is serving a lengthy prison sentence for a series of corruption charges, has been granted an amnesty by the country’s ruling party.

According to the , Park’s pardon is intended to foster in the face of the difficulties caused by the , which began in late 2009.

During a corruption that resulted in months of massive street protests, Park was arrested and sentenced to prison in 2017. He was removed from office as a result of the investigation.

Her father, authoritarian President Park Chung-hee, was Park’s father. Park is Park’s daughter. She was as Korea’s first president, in the process.
